WeSET’s Education team inspired local children to be more sustainable at an annual educational event for schools run by the National Trust.
Year 5 and 6 students from schools in Swindon and the surrounding area took part in a series of workshops across the four-day ‘Earth Summit’ at the Buscot and Coleshill Estates. Each session introduced the subject of renewable energy, with the children enjoying getting active with a variety of handheld turbine models, adjusting the pitch of the blades to better harness the wind, all within view of the five turbines on the Westmill site. The Education team also gave children the opportunity to experiment with a number of solar and wind-powered toys, as well as brainstorming ideas for energy saving at school and at home.
